The magic shell smoothie bowl trend began on TikTok when Halle Burns shared a viral video that has received over 8 million views.

To make the smoothie bowl, make a thick fruit smoothie and then top it with a chocolate coconut oil mixture that quickly hardens to form a shell.

Ingredients Required

This smoothie bowl is incredibly simple to make.

Two cups of your favourite frozen fruit (I used banana and strawberry), 1/2 cup almond or oat milk, 2 tablespoons coconut oil, and 2 tablespoons cacao or cacao powder are all you'll need.

After you've blended your smoothie, you'll need to work quickly because it will start to melt. So have all of your magic shell ingredients measured out on the counter before you start blending the smoothie!

Instead of honey, use agave or cane sugar for the vegan version of this recipe.

You can make your smoothie with any frozen fruit you want, but if you use fresh fruit, the smoothie will be too loose.

Ingredients

     • 2 cup frozen fruits (we used strawberries and a banana)

     • a half-cup almond or oat milk

     • 2 teaspoons coconut oil

     • 2 tbsp cacao powder or cocoa powder

     • 2 tsp honey (or agave)

Instructions

        • Microwave the coconut oil until it is melted. Typically, it takes 30 seconds. Set aside some time

        • In a high-speed blender, combine the fruit and milk and blend for 2 minutes, or until combined.

        • Pour the smoothie into a bowl.

        • Combine the melted coconut oil, cacao powder, and honey in a mixing bowl. 

        • Pour it over the smoothie and spread it out with a spoon.

        • Allow the chocolate to harden for a few minutes.
