Chocolate Milkshake

This thick and creamy Chocolate Milkshake made with homemade chocolate syrup has a delicious chocolate flavor.

Best Chocolate Milkshake

I'm choosy when it comes to chocolate milkshakes. They must be thick, creamy, and flavored with a powerful chocolate flavor. This chocolate shake ticks all of those boxes, and it's possibly my all-time favorite chocolate shake

Why I should Use the Chocolate Sauce to Make a Chocolate Shake

  • Because you can regulate the level of chocolate taste and ensure your shake is packed with it, the greatest chocolate shakes are made with vanilla ice cream and chocolate syrup.
  • An excellent shake can be prepared by blending chocolate ice cream with milk, but the milk will dilute the chocolate flavor and it won't have the same chocolate bite as a milkshake made with plenty of chocolate sauce.

How do you prepare a homemade chocolate milkshake?

  • Make your chocolate syrup by boiling butter, milk, cocoa powder, and sugar together.
  • When the sauce is finished, mix the ice cream, milk, and a small amount of the sauce in a blender and blend until smooth.
  • Pour remaining fudge sauce over whipped cream in a chilled glass.

More Frequently Asked Questions

Is chocolate milkshake healthy?

While the thick and creamy beverage isn't the healthiest treat on the market, it does have a few key advantages. Chocolate milkshakes are high in calcium and antioxidants, so you won't feel too bad about indulging in a weekly milkshake.

How do you make a chocolate milkshake from scratch?
  •  In a blender, combine the milk, chocolate syrup, and chocolate ice cream. Blend until completely smooth.
  •   Pour into cups and, if preferred, top with whipped cream and sprinkles.
  •  Serve right away.

Can I make a chocolate milkshake recipe without ice cream?

  •  Without ice cream, you can't make a milkshake recipe. If you like a chocolate milkshake without the ice cream, try my Banana Milkshake Without Ice Cream recipe and make the chocolate version, or try my Frozen Hot Chocolate recipe.
  • Though that's called "frozen hot chocolate," if I were going to make a chocolate shake that wasn't based on ice cream, this is particularly clear how I'd make it: with sugar, cocoa powder, milk, and ice. It's not as rich as a traditional milk shake, but it's delicious!
Can I make a chocolate milkshake recipe with ice cream?

Good. Even if all you have is chocolate ice cream, you can make a milkshake with it. Simply follow the recipe below, omitting the chocolate sauce if you want a less chocolatey (but faster) shake. Alternatively, use roughly half of the chocolate sauce and adjust to taste

Chocolate Milkshake Recipe

  • 2 tsp  sugar
  • 1  tsp cocoa powder
  • 1 tsp butter
  • 2 tsp milk
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
 Chocolate Milkshake
  • 3 scoops of vanilla ice cream
  • 3/4 cup milk
  • Whipped cream

  • Combine sugar and cocoa powder in a small mixing container. Combine all ingredients in a mixing bowl and set aside.
  • Melt butter in a small saucepan over medium heat. In a separate bowl, whisk together the milk, sugar, and cocoa powder combination. Whisk constantly, breaking up any lumps as they form, for 1-3 minutes, or until the mixture thickens and bubbles.
  • Remove the sauce from the heat and whisk for 30 seconds to remove some of the heat.
  • Stir in the desired vanilla extract and set aside at room temperature to chill somewhat while you finish combining the rest of your ingredients.
  •   In a blender, combine the ice cream, milk, and 3 tablespoons* of the sauce and process until smooth and pourable.
  • Pour into a glass, top with whipped cream if desired, then drizzle with the leftover fudge sauce. Enjoy!
  •  If you're using pre-made fudge sauce, add 3 teaspoons to your shake.
  •  Don't be concerned if your sauce has been reduced to less than or exactly 3 tablespoons. The chocolate flavor is still present, but there is less sauce due to the evaporated liquid as the sauce thickened. Just set aside a small portion for drizzling and combine the rest into the shake.
